Mind over muscle

So I once heard about this experiment where they were testing to see if thinking about working one's muscles can make them grow; the control group would go to the gym and workout while the experiment group would think about working out and by the end of the trial the experiment groups muscles had grown (although no doubt less than the control group)

So I thought i would try this while walking my dog today and lo and behold I actually started to feel the 'pump' feeling. It may just be my imagination, or the power of suggestion but I though I'd ask the community how they feel.

Has anyone heard of this experiment/can link to some info about it?

How can I test to see if I am actually gaining muscle from this exercise, other than just feeling like I am? (I have little to no experience in bodybuilding so Im not sure how to best test this)

I also heard that one can train in things like soccer, music, martial arts etc during their sleep via lucid dreaming... anyone have any experience with this?
