RemadE's Lucid Dreaming Questions

edited September 2011 in Life
Without derailing the thread, I intend on setting an alarm at 8am, then snoozing for 10 minutes. I read in one of your posts that you tried something similar and you got good results. Got nowt planned tomorrow.
Also how does dream recall help your lucidity? Is it just being able to imagine settings and places? I always have paper and a pen by my bed just in case (lol Burglar) but if I can remember my dream, it usually stays with me for the rest of the day - or in some cases, the rest of my life. I was taken to many-a psychologists as a kid because my Parents would catch me talking to people that weren't there, or having experiences that weren't typically human. Was odd. The worst dream I had was being stranded in the middle of an open place and a girl stuck on the top corner of an invisible box (as though I was inside a box but it was invisible) and she was a real life CCTV). I still can't walk into certain rooms without it coming back to haunt me. Some of which are in my own house.

Your plan sounds good to me. A good thing to be doing is testing out different methods which you read online, and seeing what works best for you. After all, everyone is different. I usually get very vivid dreams in the morning, usually after I've woken up once and then gone back to sleep, thinking about what I want to dream about. When thinking about it, I also tell myself to start lucid dreaming :D

Dream recall helps your ability to lucid dream by allowing you to recognize more easily that you're actually dreaming. Noting down certain things in your dream is a great way of building up a nice picture of what you often dream about, and using these dream journals, you can actually recognize certain patterns in your dreams over the last week, month or even year depending on how dedicated you are. As you carry out these journal entries, you will find them becoming progressively more detailed and you will start remembering a lot more stuff, which is also very cool :D

For some reason, something clicked with my dreaming and the ability to go lucid very often. I can pretty much figure out that I'm dreaming without any visual cues or anything - I just know that I'm dreaming because it FEELS like a dream. It's pretty cool. Also, the amount of sex dreams I've had which involve lucidity have allowed me to go lucid as soon as I dream about a girl, meaning plenty of in-dream sex :D

I also get this as well. I've noticed that by pure accident when I "snooze" I tend to get really vivid thought processes. it's pretty cool but never to the point of dreaming. If anything I wish to set myself a goal of a setting or activity that I wish to achieve via Lucid Dreaming. So this also seems pretty good for me (the morning).

Duly noted. I thought it was, and this just confirms it. I'd love to see if I have any recurring thoughts of things in dreams. As I have a few weeks to go before University, I also want to see how my dreams change when I am moved to a different location, or if I try drugs (been on a 3 week detox. Fuck yeah).

I think I need that now. Been a while. Ahem.

Also when I said about the oddness experienced in this post, these are a few MSPaint images I made trying to show what I experienced. The second one is at this swimming pool which was near where I lived in London - and I was only about 10 at the time.

The weird shit I saw would happen in the upper part of the ground floor toward the left of the building, as you could see in my shitty pre-image-viewing MSPaint recall. Tha's how vivid it was. I still recall the windows and if there were another photo, you'd see the slide etc. It's clear as day. considering I've not been back there in at least 10 years, the fact I still know exactly what it looks like freaks me out. I only just fun that image of the pool, and it sends a shiver down me.

I really love vivid dreams, especially ones which are just epic in terms of surroundings and settings. It's actually incredible what your imagination can come up with when you're sleeping, and being in control of that situation via lucidity is just fantastic. You literally have a whole world to play with - you're God. A few things to remember...
    • If you have the slightest thought that you're dreaming, you ARE DREAMING. You wouldn't think this in real life, would ya? :) This is the number one factor which allows me to start a lucid dream.
    • When you realize you're dreaming, spin around to retain lucidity.
    • You're in control of everything. ANYTHING is possible, regardless of whether or not you think it is. One of the main problems I face when lucid dreaming is the fact that if I don't completely believe in something, it won't be possible. For example, I want to spawn a donkey right in front of my face. Problem is, I know this isn't possible in real life and I just can't make it materialize in front of my eyes. It's annoying, and extremely hard to overcome. Just BELIEVE.
    • Tell people in your dream that they are lucid too! It's so much fun to do things with your friends, or random dream characters if you make them aware of your lucidity :)
    • Don't get too carried away. Excitement is one thing which kills off a lucid dream prematurely, especially if you're "rushing" to get things done because you "know" your lucidity will run out soon. This is negative thinking - tell yourself that you are in fact in control of your lucidity and you don't have a time limit to do things. Just have fun, and don't get too carried away!

Ok, dream journal for this thread/experiment.

    Night 1
    • Time - 23:14
    • Drugs - Had 50mg tramadol about 3 hours ago. No noticeable effects. Just had some pain. No "mindfuck" drugs in 2 days.
    • Things done today - read a lot about sleep paralysis and shadow people, plus did some Uni work.
    • Alarm - set for 8am with a 10 minute snooze.

8am recall: "Not too much other than I took loads of valium as I was scared of a psychic who would send evil spirits to me. I went to a school in London after spending the nights at an old Friends house (Charlie) which is underground - much like a bunker as his house was."
8:10am recall: "The psychic was a fake, so I did my upmost to kill them but to no success. London school had outdoor classes and the teacher was an ex Black policeman, who gave sessions of Team Fortress 2 as rewards for good behaviour and performance. I needed to go for a piss at a festival down the road but had no ID so had to use my Dad's old work ID. There were loads of porn references."
Lucid 10 minutes: I was very skitty. Trying to concentrate was a bitch but I will work on it. My mind was racing and I was like "fuck, only got 10 minutes". In future I will either lengthen the snooze period or have an objective to concentrate on.

    /Day 1 entry.

Here's a tip - note down everything you remember AS SOON as you wake up. Don't move around too much, don't get out of bed, don't leave it too long before noting things down. All of these things will decrease the amount you remember from your dreams, especially finer details. When I used to make a journal of my dreams, I'd pop up the voice recorder on my phone and just say everything I remembered. Later on in the day, I'd get out of bed and type it all up in greater detail on my computer :) Works very well.

Cheers for that. I have a dictaphone and use it a lot so will be incorporating it into my experiment.
Was actually looking at sleep deprivation experiments as well. I'd love to experience them all. Will limit myself to 5 hours of sleep tonight to wake up as REM sleep occurs.
    Stay tuned!

    Night 2
    • Time - 00:10
    • Drugs - None
    • Things done today - Chatted to Dad and went for a walk after looking at ghostie shit.
    • Alarm - set for 5am with a 10 minute snooze.

Ok so my lucid moments were kind of inbetween the dream and awake. I remember waking up then going back to sleep, and my dream involved something about going to Libya with reject (from here) and my Dad, enslaving the locals and making a sand-fort. It was a holiday as well as a random outing to the Country. After which we saw a submarine and then escaped on it.
Ended up sleeping till 8am. Should have been more awake.

Do you find that waking up and doing something then going back to sleep helps? Otherwise I hot my snooze button then just go straight back to sleep.

I've never actually tried waking up, doing something and then going back to sleep again. Some people suggest waking up just as you're about to enter your REM sleep cycle, getting out of bed to get a glass of water or something, and then going back to sleep again when you should be in the middle of your REM sleep. Then you can do something called a "Wake induced lucid dream (WILD)" and start lucidity straight away. Give it a shot, it could work for you. I've actually done a few WILD's before and it's a damn good way of entering a lucid dream.

    That's what I was thinking. I'll give it a shot tonight :)

Sounds good to me bro. Another tip I suggest is to tell yourself that you will remember your dreams when you wake up the next morning. Also tell yourself that you will have a lucid dream - for some reason it actually works a lot of the time :) Oh, and it helps to do a lot of reading regarding dreams, lucidity and sleep cycles. Really immerse yourself in the world of dreaming and you'll find that you remember a lot more.

    Night 3
    • Time - 22:15
    • Drugs - 100mg Tramadol, 120mg codeine, 5mg valium (at around 16:00)
    • Things done today - Injections
    • Alarm - set for 03:30 and had my dictaphone next to my bed.

Attempted the MILD technique mixed with a need to do the WILD technique if need be.

    Dream report.
Dream 1 - walking along a dark alley, much like a road near where I live with the river etc running by as in real life. Met some random people and went to a pub where I went round some tunnels. Waited for my girlfriend but she was busy. I made up some bullshit story to the Patrons of the pub and got a drink, walking round the cellars with the people who owned the Pub but there was a reason still unclear to me. After which I went into an office block next door and arsed about with some pissed businessmen, spinning round in the chairs and wearing a suit much to the displeasure of their Boss. There were also bodies in the basement of the office block where peoples bodies were preserved but their body parts were missing underneath, much like the volcano in Pompeii.

    Time - 4:36am

Dream 2 - I went back to sleep recalling the Libyan style dream I had the previous night, repeating "I'll remember this dream" and taking around 10 minutes to drift off. Anyway I "spawned" in a Forward Operating Base that was being overrun by the enemy. It was a desert scenario and I was trying to find ammunition for a weapon with a friend. I picked up a G36 and he had a Bren Gun. The realism in this dream was second-to-none. I stil remember the glint on the brand new, unboxed weapons but there was a noticable lack of weight.
Anyway, as we were about to surrender and be put on a firing range, I woke up.

It's odd as my dream recall tends to get better as the day goes on.

^ It's good to see that your dream recalls are getting progressively more detailed! Soon you'll be writing out epic length dreams - just check the dream journal thread if you want an example of some fairly lengthy recalls  I sometimes find that it helps to work backwards when recalling a dream, for some reason. Instead of thinking about what happens next, you think about events which built up to that point and it jogs your memory a little bit. Just my opinion though, but give it a shot.

I decided to have an hours nap this afternoon and swear I hit the lucid stage. I was trying even harder to repeat a mantra to get back to my old dreams (from the ones mentioned here) and ended up in a Team Fortress 2 game with TDR and Dfg, sitting in a wooden water tower where Dfg and I were snipers and TDR was a Soldier, having a chat about &T and the world. Was odd, and a while after i realised I was controlling it, I switched to another place.

    Proper mental.
  • edited September 2011
YES! You realized you were controlling it, which is exactly what you need to do. There are many ways of reminding yourself that you're dreaming, actually. One is to look at text, look away and look back at it again. In your dream, text is most likely mangled up or doesn't make sense. Unfortunately this isn't the case in my dreams :( What I usually do is as soon as I have a thought about dreams, I know I must be dreaming! It's the easiest way for me, personally, to realize that I'm dreaming as I never ask myself if I'm dreaming in real life.

Lol I wish I could control it to that extent. Tonight I shall try. I just think that if I imagine seeing text or am concious of the fact I am controlling my dream, I'll wake up.
Also when I realised I was drifting into this state of semi-lucidity, my body was mostly paralysed but in a good way. I could still feel my jeans on and faintly hear my Mum and Sister moving around the house, but the thoughts and images entering my brain were like a daydream, only more intense. Was pretty groovy, for lack of a better, trippy word.

Went to bed at 5am today after reading the thread about TF2 classes here (as I suck at being a Spy) as well as playing a sniper game on my phone as I still couldn't get to sleep.
Anyway, when I eventually did, I had an amazing lucid dream where I became a Spy with a Sniper Rifle. Walking round a local Town late at night and taking out Military outposts was amazing! :D only just got up...*looks at time* it's 12:40

Another thing I'm able to do now when I'm dreaming is actually make myself wake up IRL if something bad is happening. For example, about a week or two ago I had a dream where I was biking down the road and I hit the front brake super hard. I went flying up into the air, soaring above the trees and I just didn't really want to fall back down in my dream (as we all hate falling in dreams). When I was in midair, I forced my eyes open in real life and managed to wake up for a few seconds, going back to sleep after my dream-self had fallen back to earth. I can also wake myself up in the mornings if I want :D

Sounds pretty amazing. So glad I tried this stuff ut, and I now get lucid moments where I'm not even wanting them (inb4psychosis) but last night in the dream I could hear myself muttering "get in that bush" etc etc. Was surreal, plus there was obligatory raping and pillaging of a McDonalds ball/play pen. Maybe I thought I was back at Airsoft. The bike and fly dream is something I'd love to do. Surreal how you can go from a terrifying dream to one where you're flying.

You've just got to remember that it's YOUR dream. It's all inside your head, and everything you're thinking of is a product of your own information :) This also means that you can control your nightmares too. Once you see yourself having a nightmare, try and get lucid and fuck shit up. I remember once, I was at my girlfriend's house (in my dream) and all her family turned into demons. They were all some kind of shit sent from the devil himself. Anyway, luckily I'd just turned lucid and I fucked those demons up! Punching them in the face caused them to shatter like glass. It was awesome :D
