And maintained the same vector (straight line) wouldn't you eventually fly out of the atmosphere into space, considering that the world is round?

Yeh, they also have computers to do that now. But you'll get a more detailed answer if you ask a pilot.

yeah, there is such thing as orbit velocity, such that the object maintains a certain altitude, but it is always adjusted due to those variations that occur everywhere
