Poison of the Valley

HOLLISTER GUYHOLLISTER GUY Regular

You can't spell GRAPE without RAPE. Nothing could be worse. Each year the vines leach from mother Earth. A rich fruit exploiting the poor, modern day slaves. Pickers and planters labor away. All for a drink that destroyed my people. Our native culture taken by the white man's venom. A drug for the affluent and destitute alike. Ferment in hellfire.

    Would you eat yourself
    Because it's time
    And I've been starving
    -When you find me
    Will you tell me
    All your deepest inner thoughts
Or will you go away again
And leave me to be lost
-My daughter you'll be grown soon
Please just take this where you go
And you won't be so hungry
With this knowledge you will grow
-Cause I'm all on my own now
And there's no place I should be
    My life is almost over
Yet I'm happy as can be
    -And things are getting better
Ever since you have been gone
    My hunger has been changing
Like the trees that fill the lawn
-I hope you won't be back soon
So I'll never see you go
The vines they keep on growing
    And in time they'll overflow
-I'll press the liquid from the fruit
As long as I shall live
I'll drink the juice of sweet vermouth
    And die within the field

With candle burning through the night
    Flowing flames provide my light
Leads me down the rows of vines
In search of grapes I hope to find
    Such the hour vitner sleeping
So his crops I shall be reaping
    Creeping around without a sound
    My fruits are mine alone

When you live inside the grapes
    All you see are seeds
And all you taste is sweet
When you shoot up through the stem
    And land upon the leaves
Exhaling oxygen for the breathers and the pickers
    Soaking up sunbeams
    To increase the yield
The roots run wide and far
    Never dry never die

    Plantation slave
    Ride the vine
Perform the function of your day
    Now go away
    Run free to your family
    Thanksgiving feast
    Don't be sick
    Be the cowboy

Bails of vines fill the empty fields
And all the leaves have turned red
The valley is full of death now
    And winter is coming fast
    Be thankful for thanksgiving
For the hard times are on their way
For everything there is a season
Turn back or swallow the vine
