Attn: EVERYONE!

edited July 2010 in Help and Suggestions
So most of us have come here looking for something different than any other totse clone has yet to offer us so far. I myself am glad to see a more than decent looking alternative to zoklet emerge, although I understand if some of you are skeptical.

What we need to do is:

1. KEEP POSTING. Things are going to be slow at first, but if we all stay optimistic and help build the community then things will pick up faster than you think. I've already noticed the buzz around zoklet, and how there's been a lot of activity here in the past couple days. Keep it up!

2. INVITE YOUR FRIENDS. Zoklet is pretty much dead. The leaders over there have run the place into the ground trying to fix it better. What they failed to realize is that it was never broken. We need to recruit as many posters from there over here, while there's still time. Personally, I have already invited JFLC, Really Stupid Stuff, Blunderful, Pope, Slim, PuttinOnTheRitz, beergoggles, Mutant Funk Drink, My Mom Is Dead, OMPLZDNTBAN, and 5024L. Those are just the people I usually talk to. If everyone here invites people as well, we'll get big quick.

3. ALWAYS EMBRACE THE LULZ. We can have a productive, informational forum while still giving users unlimited freedom regarding what they say or do. Tell anyone who complains about mediocre bullshit to deal with it. Obviously it makes sense to censor personal info, spam, advertising, and flooding, but other than that let the everyone do what they want. There will be more information, more side notes, more lulz, more drama and generally more FUN. Because isn't that why we're all here? To have fun? To enjoy ourselves and learn while we joke around? We need to forum lynch rule lawyers and witch hunters to avoid those endless back and fourth debates we see on Zoklet. You know, the ones where the butt-hurt power happy leaders on the top play the victims, and the people on the bottom fight for their friends, their content, and sometimes even their ability to participate on the board. If we open the flood gates and do it for the lulz then nobody will have time to complain...

Keep the spirit of totse and free speech alive.

Agreed. Also, we need to do this quick (inviting people) seeing it's summer and a lot of people are on vacation and whatnot. Keep on posting, making threads, posting content, lulz, etc.

    Free speech above all.

I am in complete agreement with this. Our words should not be censored, even if they do tend to stray off topic. If anything, create a new thread in each forum to contain off topic posts. It was done on certain forums on zoklet, and seemed like a good solution to completely off topic, but still lulzy posts.

Also, the back and fourth debates shall stay, as long as they are in the appropriate forum, and as long as they arent about the butt-hurt power happy leaders and junk. The debates are sometimes what made forums like PEOO interesting, and sometimes created great lulz in themselves. (you memmer the IWD/Rizzo incident? lol)

Im glad to see everything is back to normal, and hope the admin doesnt fuck this up for all us.

    FREE SPEECH FOR THE MASSES!

I'm doing my best to invite as many people as possible. Apart from all the awesome people I know that I've invited, I've already been scrolling through the "online" section of Zoklet and sending out personalized invitations.

Thanks for making that. It's always good to have a chat set up where we can plan and help each other out. I assume at some point we will make a more official channel that isn't just for site construction.

You're going to delete your guides from Zoklet and repost them here? Awesome. There's really no reason to support Zok after what he did to you. That was pretty cold on his part. You helped him with so much, spent countless hours helping out, and EVEN took all the negative credit for his bullshit... and apparently THIS is what you get... ???

No way man! That's just one more thing they did on zoklet to justify fucking with people's content. People post things where they do, when they do, for a reason. The only way this wouldn't get abused is if the only posts moved to those threads were seriously retarded posts, like macgruber status... and even HIS posts weren't THAT bad. I say just let everything stay right where people put it and if somebody doesn't like what they see then tell them to ignore it.

The more information, no matter how worthless, the merrier.

Oh, don't get me wrong! I'm all for heated arguments, and drama, and people getting owned. What I'm talking abut is the endless uphill battles, more like bitch fests, that users like Spectral always seemed to create. Just the redundant, never ending back and fourth debates over the SMALLEST forum feature. Fuck all that noise. We need to set up the rules now, and stick to them. No shitty features, no bullshit trolling infractions... just good ol' fashion posting with no limitations or agendas.

If spectral wants to create never ending back and forth debates over something trivial, like a reply button, then more power to him. Nobody has to respond or participate. Like you said, good ol fashion posting with no limitations.

I'm fine with this, except the specialty forums where people can get hurt. There's already a moron in Backyard Ballistics posting shit information on how to make "Plastic Explosives" from the Anarchist Cook Book. Shit like that shouldn't be allowed to stay there.

I have to ask: Why censor when we can educate?

If people are being stupid we should help them be smarter. That's the whole point behind having specialty forums. To help and educate each other. If we insult, ban, or even exile every person who needs a little help then we'll be just as bad as zoklet. People wouldn't post in those specialty forums if they weren't interested and excited to learn more, so let's help them do it safely. I understand there's always going to be people doing dumb things for attn, but let's give everyone a chance before we judge them.

The concept of a discussion forum is that we can discuss the topic. In the BB section's case, I called the poster out on his bullshit post. He's welcome to challenge it, or he can go ahead and leave that topic be.
If someone's stupid enough to follow those instructions without reading the following comments, then they'll be stupid enough to create anything else the likes of google will feed them.
You're no better, by the way. That very thread, in which newbs would be looking to make high powered explosives, you boast about AP--which is JUST as easy to make, and actually will give the explosive results a wide-eyed novice would be looking for. Too bad you didn't go into very much detail on sensitivity, rather you just gushed over the power it had.

Hmm. Point taken, actually, and I agree. Though, AP works and what he posted sure doesn't, I can see where your logic lies, and I have to agree. Hell, I know I wouldn't try anything on a messageboard unless it had been confirmed by the other posters.

    3. Bring back Jim "fuck latinos" Carrey. Needs to be a moderator like he should've been on Zoklet.

Don't worry about that. As far as I can tell it's going to be the little guy who runs shit from now on, and with 4J watching out for us, we'll be fine. I hope to make this place somewhat of a free for all, with little to no rules, and no rule mongers in control to create new ones.

Yeah... It just gets to be that EVERYONE has an avatar so the whole forum ends up looking all messy, unorganized, and generally unappealing. Personally I don't want to contribute to turning anyone away... and you can always customize your signature and your location if you want something to toy around with out of boredom...

Good choice. I checked and you can hide avatars. For anyone else that doesn't want to see them, just go to your User CP, then Edit Options. You can also choose whether or not to show signatures and the images people post. Hope this helps.

I guess... my only problem is when everyone has avatars, the place looks like a joke because there's so much obtrusive garbage to look at. Further more, turning them off is a solution that only current members have the ability to take advantage of. The way it is now, people are going to get linked here and see we're nothing like totse at all. Avatars, and thanks, and rep, and features and all that worthless shit only serves to help people boost their ego, instead of actually contributing. If we keep things simple and clean then it will be people's content that represents them, not their avatars, or how much rep they have, or any of that crap.

My thoughts exactly. Although I will still abuse the hell out of it until it is remove.

As for the rep, I think it should be brought back temporarily, as yet another tribute to totse. If it becomes too much of a problem, it can always be removed as well.
