Great Tits are songbirds found in woodlands throughout Europe, Middle East, Central and Northern Asia, and North Africa. They have a glossy black head with white cheeks, and are green on the dorsal side and yellow on the ventral side. In the summer, they mainly eat insects and in the winter, they eat a larger variety of food, as they are not migratory birds. When food is abundant, they eat what they need for the day and maintain low fat reserves. Why food is scarce, they eat all they can and live off their fat reserves between meals. Great tits are monogamus birds and breed seasonally at times dependent on location. Males with a brighter underside possess stronger sperm, so are selected for by females. They nest in 'cavity nests' which include holes in trees or crevices in rocks. Nestling lasts on average 16 to 22 days, but can extend up to around 25 days. Through the years, they have adapted to human society and are commonly found in gardens and parks.
