A great article I stumbled across covering the similarities between the boxing of modern mma pro Nick Diaz and Daniel Mendoza one of the pivotal figures of the bare knuckle era, Mendoza became champ at a time when there were no weight classes and precious few rules despite the fact that he was only 5'7 and weighed roughly 160 pounds. The article gives an excellent description of the stylistic similarities of the two as well as a good overview of early bare knuckle boxing, I think it serves as an excellent illustration of how classical techniques have merit despite their age and supposed obsolescence. It makes no claims that the similarities are intentional, much more likely is that similar conditions have produced similar results, which I think also serves to show that MMA is still very much an evolving sport.
