A little known fact is that it is reasonably easy to make TNT (or nitroglycerine) out of ingredients that can all be purchased from ace hardware or home depot.

first, you need to make some sulfuric acid.
you can buy some copper sulfate pentahydrate as a root killer from home depot. 2 pounds is less than $12.

you will make a concentrated solution with water. by running a current through it over the course of a few days (preferably with a power supply) you will get some nice sulfuric acid. distillation will yield higher concentrations.

liquid fire can be bought by the liter at ace, but im not sure if the chemical additives will affect how it behaves in these reactions

now, you can follow the nurdrage guide to making nitric acid out of sulfuric acid and a nitrate salt (stump remover $5/lb).
[mix the salt and acid, use a condensor to collect vapors]

toluene (for TNT) or glycerine (for nitro glycerine) can be bought easily enough from a hardware store as well.

you now have all the precursors for some TNT.

the nitration is relatively simple and can be done using this guide
