Queensland Floods - 2011

This video pretty much sums up the past few weeks for us Queenslanders. The rain has just kept coming and our dams can barely take it anymore. One catchment alone was receiving enough water every day to fill two Sydney Harbours.

Something like 70 cities (including the state's capital city) and towns are affected by the floods, as an area greater than Texas and California combined is currently under water and considered a disaster zone. We're told that 20 lives have been lost and near 100 people are still unaccounted for.

The floods of 2010 and 2011 are likely to become Australia's worst natural disaster, as well as the costliest. AU$13 billion is likely to be slashed from the economy due to lost productivity with having to shut flooded mines.

Like with any natural disaster in this country, it really has brought out the best in everybody. The community spirit still manages to shine through, with State Emergency Service even having to turn back volunteers, as there were too many.

*ps, i'd prefer if this thread wasn't made a mockery of.
