Yeah, I know it needs to be longer and probably a little cooler too. This was made before I discovered how to make my own sounds in FruityLoops, instead of just using the presets. So that tune was made entirely of preset sounds, which is probably why it sounded a little weird.
you can make your own sounds?? I always just use the presets:facepalm:
You can work with the synthesizers and mess around with the waves to create your own sounds. You can also add wobbles and distortion etc. It's how people produce dubstep and shit like that.
That DVD above didn't really help for recording for electric guitar... My biggest question is how far should should I position my mic from my amplifier .... What size/type room should I record in? At what level should I set my gain at on my microphone?? I bought a samson CO1U condenser mic for my home studio.. Any tips guys?
When Im in college i use Logic, and at home I use Cubase (easy to get online) Recording in college, its easy when you have a mixing desk, and if you are recording any instrument at home in your own home studio its is better to have an audio interface with which you can plug those into. Then its on to the mastering stage, using a DAW of your personal preference, and if your looking at industry standard its either Pro Tools, Logic, or Cubase
DAW: Reaper
Drums: superior drummer/addictive drums
for bass I like to record a real bass through reaper, Ive tried all kinds of bass programs and they all suck in my opinion compared to a real bass, they just dont cut it.
I play a les paul studio (sunburst) through a podXT into my DAW. I also have a Marshall 410 with a custom cab Id like to start recording in the near future.
You can ALWAYS tell when someone is using Fl studio,it's like a watermark comprised of shitty compressors.Sounds like it's been produced in a closet, probably the homosexual kind.
I'm running Reaper as a DAW,It's easily the best of the 'free' DAW's available and if you're running Audacity you should be shot.Never bothered getting around to 'upgrading' to Ableton or Pro-tools.It's one of those 'learnt on it,can't be fucked learning again' things.
I suppose the context of what you are recording/producing is kind of important.I tend to flit between purely electronic and live instrumentation.
As for VST packs:
.Waves, because the Solid State Compression patch is fucking boss.
.dBlue Glitch
.Guitar Rig 4
.Audition Plug-ins
.1876730255195014 downloaded patches, because they always seem so good in theory....
VSTi's:
.Nexus,which is pretty meh
.Novation Bass Station...which is equally meh
.Vember Audio.Surge,is fucking awesome.
.A bunch of D'n'B and Dubstep instruments, the 'wonkey' pack or some shit.
.Edirol HQ.Philharmonic
Anyone know of any reallllly good and preferably cracked String section VSTi's?

I can provide D/l's,if you ask real purty like.
Any from the EastWest website (soundsonline), although they are extraordinary expensive.... I am trying to find a torrent for that actually but as far as I know there isnt one to be found. The built in ones in Cubase are actually pretty nice though so I dont mind. Just downloaded Syntholegy Ivory pianos, and they are sweet Would highly recommend them if you need a piano vst.

So,uh,I have a version of eastwest Colossus.
Yet to try it out,but if you want a d/l, it can be arranged.Just let me know before like...July 15th ish.
So excited!:D
Ok,so maybe that was a slightly overwrought generalisation.
Fruity Loops, was for a long time, a shitty production program.I suppose it's good if your just looking to make sample based music, and it has gotten mildly better in the last few versions.
Afrojack and DeadMau5 both use Fl,and as soon as I heard them it was pretty obvious. Not that they're my cup of tea but eh.I'll reword my statement, you can usually tell when someone is using fl,especially when they aren't very good at what they're doing.

Blame the producer not the tool. When you hear the same presets for long enough, sure you can tell what they are using. Ever use Reason? Doesn't get much more in the box than that. I started out using FL back in version 6, then went on to Acid, Pro Tools and then much later Reason, Ableton and FL studio 9.
My point is nowadays all daws are more or less the same. Its just finding what you are comfortable using.

I agree completely.
I think it's just that a lot of people jumping into production get FL x and pump out tune after tune of generic samples.Any melody or drum pattern will annoy me if this is the case,it just sounds...mass produced. You are right though, that is the producers fault...not the program.
What are your experiences with pro tools and Ableton, seeing as they are the 'industry standard(s)'?
I attempted the jump to Ableton a while back, felt limited without knowing where everything was and what it did.

Awesome - created anything great? You should upload your music so we can listen. I uploaded something a few months ago
I'm not sure how to upload to this site??
I have so much shit made but I only have one track thats online.. I mainly make rap beats but I did a techno song for the hell of it
Now uploading something to Uloadr. It's still a work in progress though, like pretty much all of my stuff.
http://uiu.me/2.mp3
Dude that is bad ass you just need to make it a little longer
But I just uploaded a butt load of stuff from rap beats to some metal check it out I did all the work myself

You can control Fruity Loops with a midi keyboard If you're looking for something more high-quality, get reason.
I think you should move the guide over here so that it can be properly read/praised/criticized in a manner which would be beneficial to others.
Heh, I know. I did so much stupid shit on Zoklet I can't get anything properly critiqued there, but I don't give a fuck, the place is worthless.
