Internet Explorer 9

edited May 2011 in Tech & Games
When is the official release date for this browser, and is it going to be shipped out to all Windows users through the Microsoft Update service? It would be very good if all IE users got their hands on it, as it makes a lot of websites (including Totse) look a shit load better than the current IE8 rendering.

Also, who's going to use this instead of Firefox? Not me.

I have been using IE9 for over a month and it's awesome. They released the final long time ago I think. Honestly, it beats the shit out of FF when it comes to time out errors that I face, plus it handles two WAN networks better and the HW acceleration is a lot better than FF. It does lack few things but I don't mind it. Also, it doesn't remember my PW from time to time.

I'm a Chrome man myself, I like the minimalist style, but I use FF for porn because having NoScript on helps the movies stream faster. I use a couple of things that not many of my friends use, most notably Chrome, and Vuze(torrents), and am quite happy with them, but I suspect there are some good reasons why some don't use them, any ideas?

I've stopped using Chrome ever since I heard about Google collecting information based on your browsing habits and other things. Apparently it's purpose is to "enhance their features" but I dunno, I don't like the sound of it.

I use FF because it's open source, not owned by some big company who probably wants to take over the world, and the addons are sweeet. I can't really live without Adblock and NoScript.

Chromium? It's exactly the same except without all the creepy stuff.

FYI Microsoft isn't pushing out IE9 via the Windows Update to anyone using an OS prior to Vista. IE9 has been forcefully disabled from working on XP to get people to upgrade to 7.

Could it be because IE9 has HW acceleration and it use Windows 7 HW support? but if FF and Chrome have it, I don't think MS should have any issue with enabling it in Win Xp, considering it might only take a few drivers updates and one DirectX update.

IE9 makes FF4 feel sluggish as hell. I'd switch but &T is still displayed improperly and the gui is just *shivers.* I like FF's rounded off tabs.

I've been putting off the idea of using IE9 for ages now, just because it's Microsoft and they have a habit of releasing crappy browsers/software... But eh, I might give it a shot.

Yeah, pretty much that was their "Official" reason for it, and both Chrome and FF made them look like dipshits, but for the tech idiots they will simply interpret that the OS/hardware can't run new things and upgrade, which is what Microsoft actually wants for a lot of reasons. XP just needs to die. When you're a giant like MS and you're trying to push new shit that isn't compatible with older systems it makes things a PITA, not to mention MS doesn't want to develop each new software to include support for every OS they ever made. People just need to get over it and fucking upgrade, any logical reason for holding back is flat out bullshit at this point and not choosing x64 over x32 is fucking ignorant.

They actually did a fairly good job. The speed and compatibility issues have been very rare with IE ever since really the IE7 days but even less with each version given Microsoft actually is losing vast market share and thus importance in the browser market. Plus you can count on Microsoft not changing much to its ultimate layout/options even comparing versions of 6.0 to current 9.0. Only real modification comes with the look and underneath speed in which it does an excellent job. Mozilla can't figure out what the fuck they want to do if you go from version 2.0 to 4.0 they are all over the damn place and getting almost as laggy as IE 6.0 was if not worse with add-ons. The only thing is if you like to roll on the Internet with no add-ons than IE9 is a great choice, if you require extra bullshit in your surfing than IE9 isn't for you.

^ it's not the speed I was worried about really. I've stayed away from IE for a long time since realising it wasn't up to date with current web standards, meaning CSS among other things didn't render properly. It's also extremely exploitable, which is a big enough reason in itself to stay away from it. Finally, I love my addons which make browsing so much better. I'm a dedicated Adblock/Noscript user so IE just wouldn't really do it for me.

Tried IE9 and didn't like it. It's really slow on my system and I don't like the interface. I hate how when I open a new tab it looks as if I opened a new window as well on the taskbar. Plus I gotta have my add-ons.

Yeah that's one of the main reasons I switched to but I also would throw in the silly fact even up to IE7 and I think IE8 the browser only had a MAXIMUM of 4 connections to the server when Opera's default was 16. The speed difference is what caused Opera to be my permanent browser and at that time it was solely because of the maximum connections, long before the silly ass Javascript engine wars of now.

That also pissed me the fuck off. However, Microsoft didn't go completely stupid unlike their download manager which DOESN'T allow you to turn it off, disable, or remove it in any form which many people are bitching about most.

The problem to that silly ass icon in the task bar is a relatively easy fix, but shouldn't come as default I agree.

I tried IE9 last night, after years of craptastic IE releases - IE9 is surprisingly competent.

It still has that characteristic IE delay though - the one were it waits a little (not more than 2 seconds) until it renders the page so to avoid the content jumping around.

No matter how good they make Internet Explorer i'll never use it again out of principal.

Plus I like the massive amount of add-ons Firefox has, even though version 4 is either trying to copy IE and Chrome's minimalist design, or the Ubuntu developers nagged at Mozilla until they changed the design.
