Bunker porn

I visited an old Royal Observer Corps Cold War bunker a while ago. These things are dotted all over the British countryside, but a lot of them are either flooded or sealed off. Anyway, I managed to locate one that was in relatively good condition and easily accessible, and took some pictures on the way:

I also took a video of the hatch closing because I was impressed at how smooth the counterweight mech was - I'm assuming it's either been well maintained or has been refurbished/replaced. Be warned, it's windy as fuck and it looks like Michael Fox was the cameraman.

It was a lot smaller than I had imagined, it must have been very claustrophobic with two men and a shit load of equipment in.

I'm pretty sure someone has done at some point. The rugs and cushions seen in the interior shots aren't part of the original kit and have obviously been brought in. Once upon a time it was connected to both fresh running water and electricity, although these have either been disconnected or are faulty.

Nice explore  I remember going to one ROC post and after opening the hatch, seeing my face looking back at me.

The entire thing was full with stagnant water.

Also I thought you were requesting some sort of porno being shot in an ROC post lol.

I love that under 2012 section, amongst all the apocalyptic talk of natural disasters and civil unrest, lies the quote "It is important to note that nowhere in any of the Mayan prophecies does it say unconditionally that the world itself is going to end on 12/21/12". Still, there's some pretty cool looking stuff on there.

Nope, just some pics I took of a shaft. But who knows, maybe that's why the cushions were brought in...

That is a fascinating find and thanks for sharing the photos and footage. I would love to have something like that near me. I would refurb the place as best I could, conceal the hatch, and lock it for possible future use.

Nice ROC post dude, I'd love to visit one but the one nearest to me is inaccessible :( I gave it a shot though, but I discovered that it had in fact been buried and the hatch removed. It's a shame really, I'd have loved to of gone inside. Great pictures though!

You could always buy this. Not a bad deal at $260,000 considering it comes with 22 acres.

There are a few ROC posts around me, and one what I think must be a ROC post even tho it is above ground - it is some kind of lookout station where you can see from Southern Northumberland to Teeside. Had a bit of a look around for an underground place around there, but the land is in use quite a bit so hard to find anything.

Kenton War Rooms are the closest large place to me, but I do not think anyone has been in there unofficially for quite a few years. The area where they are was re-developed a few years ago and since then, if you even look like you might just be going for a look at things above ground, the police turn up. All security cameras and alarms now, but di hear talk of a local group taking the place over and restoring it to help preserve it.

This is actually my first time seeing a bunker like that, I don't ever recall seeing one is IRL. I think it's mostly due to poor funding or whatever, most bunkers created by the armed forces use Mud and digging. That's it. They use tents most of the time. I wish I could visit that bunker. Awesome post OP.

I want to own an underground bunker one day. :(

Why dont we scrap the plans for &T Island and just all pitch in and buy a missile sile and proceed to hot box the fuck out of it?

That's probably because I think ROC posts are a UK only thing. You Paki's have caves to hide in anyway. Why not go find Bin Laden's underground bunker or whatever it is? :D

Most of these bunkers were dug ~60 years ago, but ironically enough this post accurately describes the current situation in the UK as well!

Where is that? The fire tower at Tynemouth? I would be sceptical about the vista from it; I once did a skydive over Peterlee on a relatively clear day, at about 15k feet I could see Stadium of Light and the Riverside and not a lot beyond either. Also re: a group restoring it - sadly I've heard rumours in the past of that happening at other sites, but invariably the developer's cash made a more convincing argument to the planners, so don't hold your breath. The big one in York was refurbished and turned into a Heritage site and museum; it's hardly as exciting as exploring dilapidated ones but it's probably worth a look one day.

Or you could build a house on top of one. It will be well documented on deeds and plans etc, so it's not like a secret bat cave, but still pretty badass.

The above ground one is inland. If you are going to be on Tyneside, give me a shout and I will take you there. When you looks at the area that is covered by the view, it takes your breath away - it must be one of the only places that has such a view.

W/r to the restoration, it is for the Kenton site - the area around it has been developed but the command centre has been left as is due to historical sugnificance.

I've read a few reports on 28DL of the Kenton Bar site, it does look like a fantastic explore, but they're all from a few years ago so I'm assuming that security has been stepped up in more recent times, which does generally happen when there's talk of private development. It's sad, but it looks like the only way to see it now is if it does get heritage status and offically opened to the public.

I've no immediate plans to be up in the area but I'm sure I will be at some point, so it's a date. I mean, no no, it's not a date. Absolutely not a date. It's a plan, is what it is.

Nice find ... and nice pictures.

Funnily I've been to the UK just a few weeks ago. Didn't find any bunkers on the few walks I did though, only an old collapsed mineshaft not looking interesting. You're blessed to have so much of that stuff over there ... and all in that nice countryside :)

    cheers
