For free open source use Audacity or you can use the free version of Wavepad. Either will do the job but I prefer Wavepad myself.

I tried wavepad and get this message.

    Error message
Unfortunately, your file could not be converted because your source file format is still unknown to our converter.

Then use the Switch application from NCH, I know it converts CDA to MP3.

Fine example of the usefulness of .info.

Over an hour i've been pissing about trying to get this audio off a cd and onto my mp3 player.

10 mins after asking .info it's done!

Wait wait wait. You didn't know how to RIP A CD? Less than 1 second in google would have yeilded you much more accurate and helpful advice then totse.info EVER could have provided you.

I noticed you're running windows 2000 or newer, which means as soon as you put the CD in the your drive it should give you the option to rip the CD. Assuming of course that you didn't turn off autoplay, but how would you have managed that if you couldn't manage to hit "rip cd" in pretty much any media player.

Well that's the thing, I do know how to rip cd's, and everything I tried including online converters kept coming up with the same message, file type not recognised.

So sorry fella, that's bullshit :)

Clearly you don't. Just saying. Put the CD back in, go to windows media player, and hit "rip cd". I'm betting it works. If it doesn't I want PROOF of it not working.

Helladamnleet, if you are just looking for an argument or an opportunity to insult others please confine those activities to HB. Otherwise ad something useful to this thread in terms of ripping CDs and or converting audio files from one format to another. In either event please do not continue to derail this thread with petty bickering and childish demands.

I already gave all the advice the OP needed.

    Here, I'll write a guide:

    1) Open your CD drive.
    2) Remove any media already in your CD drive.
    3) Insert the CD you are trying to rip into the drive.
    4) Close your CD drive.
    5) Open any media playing program.
    6) Click "Rip CD to Library" (actual label may vary slightly).
    7) Enjoy your music.

    Pretty fucking straight forward.

Pretty fucking dim to repeat something you have already been told didn't work.

Are you just trolling or did you seriously not read the thread?

Holy shit this thread takes me back. I don't think i've put an audio CD in my computer in about 5 years.

When i last done it, cdex was king.

WMP is very picky when it comes to ripping audio, it plain doesn't work on some disk drives.

I'll never understand these ego trips.

He moved your post, he didn't delete it. It's a matter of opinion were it goes, he's a mod, he can move it.

It's not worth all the bitchfest. It really isn't. I mean, what exactly do you want to achieve with this? There's no point.

Also, it's a matter of tone. You could have asked the guy "Did you try it with WMP?" and he would have answered you (he did and it failed) and you would have come out as being polite and helpful. This isn't about point-scoring.
    Instead, you wrote this:

This is great guys. Now that we have gotten most of the rotten apples out of the barrel the community is starting to mature and the community is starting to speak out against those who need a reality check.

When i made the thread i made it in that area but to make threads there I think you need to tag it with Edu, Law or Religon. Very confusing because I think i made it in the right place.

They say that formal training these days is for people who want to look like they're learning; and google is for people who actually want to learn.
Its pretty clear in the employment marketplace that having skills is far more important than having a degree. Especially in some of the horse shit degrees people are studying these days.

With the vast amount of information on the internet today; ted talks; how to videos; educational resources; vast troves of information is it not hard to quickly learn many things about and topic and begin to understand and thrive on it. I agree that asking .info about how to solve a trivial software issue probably isnt the most effective way to solve the problem - but i guess if its solved in 10 minutes that is still decent efficiency; but is it the correct path of action?

I think when jeff hunter pulled the plug on totse it was in part because it has served its part - the counter culture was not counter to anything anymore; it has its own mainstream places on the internet and the levels of connectivity as well as device and internet penetration means that everyone who wants to connect CAN connect.

I know that .info is going in a new direction (NOTE; REFERING TO AS .INFO NOT AS TOTSE) but is that direction going to be a forum for porn passes; vbookie; an arcade and trivial self help questions?

    That depends on the userbase.

I don't know what all the fuss is about. I have a 15 year old sound effects cd from the BBC, I wanted to put it on an mp3 player to use for Halloween at a friends party. I tried the programs I have on my computer. WMP and youtube downloader which is what I normally use. Both said file type not recognised. I googled and tried a few online converters, same problem. Tried downloading wavepad, and that didn't recognise the file type either. I was about to give up and almost resigned myself to taking my cd player to the party instead of my mp3 player, when I asked on here. I got an answer in seconds, and the job was completed 10 mins later.
Now I'm no expert, but neither am I an idiot. I've no idea whether the codex needed was an out of date one that modern software doesn't include, or the BBC use some wierd file types with some sort of protection, But I do know that asking someone with a bit more experience than me can be a lot quicker than trolling through hundreds of possible answers on google.

You see kid you were doing OK but you just could not resist the little digs at the end. There was no need for this post in that thread. The users problem was solved and you commentary was nothing more than a thinly disguised cheap shot at what we are trying to achieve here. Apparently you mistook my kindness in lifting your 30 day ban early as weakness. If you reply to this thread, if you don't post on topic, if you create anything that is even remotely related to drama I am going to perm ban you and be done with this.

The only fuss chippy is from children who have nothing better to do with their time than to seek the attention their parents forgot to give them while raising them by creating useless drama on the internutz. We solved your problem and now they are creating problems for the sake of their own boredom.
