I love this song. It's one of my personal favorites; but what DOES it mean? I decided to google it, and no one can really pinpoint what it's actually about. Most people decided on religion, and some other people said it was about one of the guitarists brothers committing suicide, which apparently is BS.

Does anyone really know?

The noun CHOP SUEY has 1 sense:
    1. meat or fish stir-fried with vegetables (e.g., celery, onions, peppers or bean sprouts) seasoned with ginger and garlic and soy sauce; served with rice; created in the United States and frequently served in Chinese restaurants there.
Familiarity information: CHOP SUEY used as a noun is very rare.
There ya go! Who would'a thought?

The song is about the guitarists brother who committed suicide. In the song he is asking why his father has forsaken him over his brothers death.

I'v read the lyrics and the suicide thing seems to fit.

    here they are
    Wake up (wake up)
Grab a brush and put a little makeup
Hide the scars to fade away the shake up
(Hide the scars to fade away the shake )
Why'd you leave the keys up on the table?
Here you go create another fable

    (You wanted to)
Grab a brush and put on a little makeup
    (You wanted to)
Hide the scars to fade away the shake up
    (You wanted to)
Why'd you leave the keys up on the table?
    (You wanted to)

I don't think you trust, in, my,
    Self-righteous suicide,
I, cry, when angels deserve to die

    Wake up (wake up)
Grab a brush and put a little makeup
Hide the scars to fade away the shake up
Why'd you leave the keys up on the table?
Here you go create another fable

    (You wanted to)

Hide the scars to fade away the shake up
    (You wanted to)

    (You wanted to)

I don't think you trust in my
    Self-righteous suicide,
I cry, when angels deserve to die
    In my self-righteous suicide,
I cry, when angels deserve to die

    Father (father)
    Father (father)
    Father (father)
    Father (father)
Father into your hands, I commend my spirit
Father into your hands, why have you forsaken me?
    In your eyes, forsaken me
    In your thoughts, forsaken me
    In your heart, forsaken me

Oh, trust in my, self-righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die
    In my self-righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die

I think it's about a chick who cheated on her partner.

she's putting make up on to hide the scars of her infidelity , leaving the keys on the table after she snuck out the night before. She was an Angle but now she deserves to die, him killing her is the same as him committing suicide in heaven, in God's eyes, *because god has made him into a jealous/ deeply in love man "forsaken me" .

That's how I interpreted it as anyway, and it makes sense to me, I couldn't see it in any other way. Got goosebumps listening to this again after so long. Can't wait for them to come to Australia so I can lose my fuking shit to them!!!!!!*

According to users of SongMeanings 100% of songs ever written are about suicide/death/breakups/drug addiction.

I always thought this song was about someone losing their faith and becoming an athiest. The second half of the song particularly. As to what caused them to lose faith? I don't know. Could be one of the SongMeanings Holy Quadrumvirate.

    PS. Obligatory post of Toxicity.

Well they say that the guitarists brother didn't kill himself, he died in a fire. And that spawned this song:

Maybe he committed suicide in a fire and that inspired both songs.

I think it's about a girl who loses everything to meth. She is first burned horribly in a meth lab explosion, hence the scars/makeup. Then, desperate, she turns to gambling, losing everything. IE, leaving keys to her home/car/life on the poker table. The verse about the father is referring to how she was then estranged by her final support network, her(most likely catholic) religious community. I guess we can assume all these troubles drove her to suicide.
