Alright, I was kinda working on the theme and thinking of ways to get it right and I kinda hit a big wall. The thing is, I can't use the old totse slogan and stuff. The reason being simple. This isn't Totse nor it's a replica of Totse. In a way it's a home for Totseans to meet and expand.

I need good suggestion and tons of fucking feedback. Again, WE'RE NOT CHANGING TOTSE, we're just making totse.info stand on it's own and follow the legacy created by Totse.com and make a name for itself.

These are the exact same words that Zok used to describe zoklet.

Users came to zoklet expecting a totse replacement, and when zok said that this would not be so, users were disappointed. However the difference between Zoklet and us it that zoklet was Zok's personal website, so he had the right to do what he did. Our site is called totse.info.

Would it be so difficult for you to simply give users what they want? Zok's decision about his website was the one thing that brought users to totse.info, and now you are just going to throw away the greatest opportunity that you have?

And for what? Some vague principle?

Sometimes the easiest path is the most effective, for example you remember how we used facebook, reddit, and the marketing forum for quick growth instead of slow content/principle based growth? Well, this is similar. Just take the easy path and say that we are totse.com. This will result in quick success/growth. Why attempt to build a website from the ground when Jeff has done all of the work for us?

Jeff Hunter was a great man, but I doubt that he is about to jump from the shadows full of rage and bite a chunk out our ass cheeks. We have already infringed upon his copyright.

We should learn from zoklet’s mistakes and not repeat them:

Claim to not be totse and fail.

Claim to be totse and succeed.

Just be a bold leader and admit to the world that we want to become totse.com. What do we have to fear? Perhaps some idiots will say that we can never be what totse was. So what? Tell them to fuck off.

Do not be fooled by users who claim that letting totse die is the best way to honor it. These people only wish to see our community fail.

I also oppose any form of administrative elitism. It does not matter if this community is led by Jeff Hunter, Zok, acidmelt, Hellish, or Dfg. Anyone who is willing to stay true to Jeff’s original principle and gives users freedom of speech without any interference should have the right to lay claim to totse.com.

I have heard the argument on totse and zoklet that what made totse great was the community and not the website itself.

On the surface this idea sounds very wise and good, but take a closer look at its results:

On zoklet, this idea has allowed Zok and the administration to get rid of freedom of speech by claiming that totse principles were not important as long as they had the same totse community and content.

I do not think that totse was originally about crime, drugs, sex, murder, niggers, and child porn. It was simply about freedom of speech and exchange of information. The awesome community that we associate with totse was simply a byproduct.

Because the totse community was (and still is) so great, we tend to be distracted by the byproduct, and forget that principles shaped the community, not the other way around.

    The temple made the electron.

I think your view is accurate, but that is change at its most basic level. There are some people that try to extend this idea of change to the community itself. I only wish to urge users to be cautious after what happened to zoklet.

The reason that mods and wires can abuse their powers is because zoklet does not have any firm principles that guarantee freedom of speech.

Slogans are clever witty ideas that give insight into our principles. That is why I included principles as part of this discussion.

I read this on the totse FAQ a long time ago and years later, it's still what I think of every time I see a discussion about what totse is supposed to be.
Q: What is TOTSE all about, anyway?

A: A lot of people have some weird idea that this web site is a Bad Place, a place for hackers, software pirates, and anarchists. The reason that they think this is that there are informational text files on here about hacking, piracy, and anarchy.

However, there are also text files on here that discuss politics; democratic, right wing, left wing, libertarian, communist, and everything in between, but this is not a political web site.

There are files on here that discuss Jesus Christ, Muhammed, Buddha, Crowley, John Smith, and "Bob", but this is not a religious web site.

There are files full of short stories, science fiction, humorous articles, and great works of literature, but this is not a literary web site.

There are files with information on rocketry, radio broadcasting, chemistry, electronics, genetics, and computers, but this is not a technical web site.

This web site is about INFORMATION. All sorts and all viewpoints. Some of the information you will agree with, some you will find shocking, and some you will probably disagree with violently. That is the whole point. In this society we go to schools where there is one right answer: The Teacher's. There is one acceptable version of events: The Television's. There is only one acceptable occupation: The pursuit of money. There is only one political choice to make: The Status Quo.

On this web site you are expected to make decisions all by yourself. You get to decide who and what to agree with, and why. You get to hear new viewpoints that you may have never heard before. On this web site people exist without age, without skin color, without gender, without clothes, without nationality, without any of the visual cues we usually use to discredit or ignore people who are unlike ourselves. All of these things are stripped away and the ideas themselves are laid bare.

You will change. You will transform. You will learn. You will disagree.

    You will enjoy it.

As much we would love this to be totse.com, we can't pull that off atm. Mostly because we don't have totse.com domain. If we have it then we will be totse.com not info.Don't get me wrong I don't want to change things but if the world wants see something new we have to update few things. We can use Totse legacy and built something but we don't have old members and most of the users won't join up.

If this was totse.com I wouldn't be worried about these things. Users come here to get a taste of Totse.com and try to recreate it as best as possible. Anyone can make a clone, making a successful successor is difficult. Totse.info needs to be called the successor of Totse.com, so when the times comes Jeff at least tries to help us out.

I am not worried about copyright BS. It takes few ticks here and there and the problem goes away. We have an opportunity to build something amazing and we can.

Again, like I said before I created this thread to get some valuable feedback. I want every user to be part of totse and I want everyone to be on the same page.

ATM we're not totse.com because we don't have the domain. Without a domain wiki won't give a shit etc. So, just to keep ourselves running and at the same time expand we're going to use a new slogan with a modified mission statement that does not filter us out and makes it easier for everyone to understand the purpose of this website.

Oh btw whatever gets put up will get approval from you guys :). You're all part of totse and you're all administrators IMO.

But I still think "Read, Know, Do" should be the mission statement for any Totse.com legacy site. In the end, that's what it's all about IMO. Totse is not a social network. It's an information site built around the principles of freedom of information and freedom of speech.

TL/DR: Please keep "Read, Know, Do" somewhere, because IMO that's what &t is all about.

OK This is what i came up with for a mission statement, I'll probably tighten it up again later:

As for an slogan, it was originally a typo but how about; "freedom to choose your freedom"
Totse.info is a site dedicated to your freedom. It is a meeting place for both idle discussion and serious learning.

Through totse, people are able to meet and share information from all over the world.
Through the totse community, you will be exposed to shocking, disturbing and often insighful views and content. We do not aim to filter or censor, nor do we go out of our way to host sensationalist material. We give you the freedom to choose your freedom.

totse is a place for all people, anyone is able to join and contribute regardless of political affiliations, colour, gender, race or religion.
There are no restrictions on joining, there are no restrictions on debate.

totse is founded on the belief that the individual should have the ability to make informed decisions. The ideas you will encounter on this website range from insane all the way to genius, often they are both or neither.

Some of the stuff here will kill you, some of it will make you a better person.
It's up to you to find out. It's up to you to discuss.
    That's the point.
