Arron Banks used his New Year message to call on eurosceptics

Businessman Arron Banks used a New Year message to release a rallying cry to eurosceptics as he called on them to help “liberate the UK” by supporting his campaign in the European Union (EU) referendum.

His latest call for Brexit came after David Cameron hinted that Britain could be given the chance to leave the EU in just over six months.

Mr Cameron has promised to hold an referendum on the UK’s membership of the EU before the end of 2017.

If a deal is agreed at the next European Council summit in February, it could clear the way for a vote to be held as early as next summer.

Reflecting on this year, Mr Banks said 2015 had been “a year of EU crises – the Eurozone Greek debt crisis, the migration crisis and now the security crisis”.

He also touched on Storm Frank, which has been causing chaos across the country with gales of up to 80 mph and heavy rain whipping Britain.

Mr Banks said: “Next year will be no different, already we can see the problems of the floods in England made possible by EU laws that have halted dredging of our rivers.”

He added: “Leaving the EU will be the biggest political earthquake in Europe since the Berlin Wall fell.

“It will not just liberate the UK so that we can decide our laws for ourselves it will also initiate change in the EU itself, forcing it to face up to its many failures that will have caused the British people to relinquish membership of a failed attempt to force proud countries into an unaccountable superstate.”

Meanwhile, the other major out campaign group claimed that laws from Brussels would form a pile of paper that measures 10 meters high – more than two double-decked buses.

Vote Leave chief executive Matthew Elliott said: “EU politicians have promised countless times that they would cut red tape but they have never actually done it.

“This mountain of red tape causes huge problems for British businesses, councils and for the NHS.

“EU politicians cannot be trusted – they are promising future cuts in red tape to David Cameron but that is about as likely as turkeys voting for Christmas.

“The only way to deal with this problem once and for all is to take back control by voting to leave the EU.”

Yesterday it was reported that Brussels bureaucrats have added almost 80,000 pages to the EU rule book in just 10 years.

The original EU rule book was only 614 pages but it now contains over 168,349.

Earlier this month Mr Cameron demanded that EU bosses slash regulations as one of his four renegotiation demands.

However his conditions to Brussels has yet to be met.
