Looks Like The Taliban Don’t Care Too Much For George Floyd

What is a George Floyd mural doing in Afghanistan?

I mean seriously, the last thing Afghans need to worry about is George Floyd.

Sources are claiming that Taliban forces have reportedly painted over a mural of George Floyd, and have replaced it with pro-state Islamic messaging.

This is part of an effort to cover up murals reflecting pro-American values all over the war torn country.

I don’t care what Taliban fighters choose to paint on walls, but I’m trying to figure out why this mural is even there in the first place?

The Taliban have started painting over artist’s murals of western symbols and values that adorn the walls of the Afghan capital – including one of George Floyd – and are replacing them with ‘victory slogans’.

Afghan activist Omaid Sharifi’s art collective, Artlords, have spent eight years transforming stretches of Kabul’s labyrinthine concrete blast walls with colourful murals.

The painter of the mural was quoted in The Guardian, and provides his reason for the paintings:

Sharifi believes the Taliban are trying to silence people by destroying the murals with their comments on social issues.

“Our aim was to promote critical thinking and put pressure on the government to accept people’s demands,” Sharifi said. “Taliban was and is an armed movement that only understands guns, violence, beating, beheading, suicide vests and bombs. There is no vocabulary about art in the Taliban’s dictionary. They even cannot imagine art. I think they don’t understand it, that’s why they are destroying it.”
