One of the Biggest Anti-Trump Republicans Was Just Added to Pelosi’s Partisan Jan. 6 Committee

Days after rejecting Republicans who would scrutinize the Democrats’ partisan, hyperbolic narrative on January 6 from becoming members of their committee, Speaker Nancy Pelosi has added one that will echo the radical Democrats’ narrative, while giving the committee a superficial veneer of “bipartisanship.”

Trump opponent Adam Kinzinger, who was one of ten Republican House members to vote to impeach Donald Trump after the January 6th uprising, was selected to be a member of the committee.

“For months, we have searched for answers and what process we should use to get them. For months, lies and conspiracy theories have been spread, threatening our self-governance,” Kinzinger said in a statement accepting the nomination. “For months, I have said that the American people deserve transparency and truth on how and why thousands showed up to attack our democracy, and ultimately, what led to the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol Complex on January 6, 2021.”

“Self-governance requires accountability and responsibility,” he went on. “My faith requires the same of me, truth is necessary for order, and that’s what I will do. Let me be clear, I’m a Republican dedicated to conservative values, but I swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution—and while this is not the position I expected to be in or sought out, when duty calls, I will always answer.”

“This moment requires a serious, clear-eyed, non-partisan approach,” he continued. “We are duty-bound to conduct a full investigation on the worst attack on the Capitol since 1814 and to make sure it can never happen again.”

“”Today, I was asked by the Speaker to serve on the House Select Committee to Investigate January 6th and I humbly accepted,” Kinzinger added. “I will work diligently to ensure we get to the truth and hold those responsible for the attack fully accountable.”

The Illinois representative also felt the need to undescore the fact, “Let me be clear, I’m a Republican.”

Kinzinger, however, stoked controversy with his impeachment vote against former President Donald Trump, as well as his numerous statements about him.

“Basically, the second Donald Trump tweeted that this is what you get when you steal an election, two or three hours after the insurrection started, I realized he was just unfit to be president,” Kinzinger said. |He wasn’t even managing the federal government, wasn’t defending the Capitol.”

Of course, Speaker Nancy Pelosi is the one with jurisdiction over the Capitol Police, which is a secretive arm of the Congress unaccountable to basic mechanisms of transparency. It was one reason why the only person provably killed at the uprising was Trump supporter Ashli Babbitt and the American people are prevented from formally knowing who her shooter was.

The Democrats have insisted that January 6th was a deadly “insurrection” that was effectively a thwarted “coup” attempt by unarmed protesters and far-right extremists. None of the protesters and extremists on January 6th have thus far been charged with “insurrection” or “treason.”

The selection of Kinzinger comes only days after Nancy Pelosi rejected two Republicans who would actually push back against the Speaker’s framing of the event as one of the worst attacks on “democracy” in American history.

“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Wednesday she’s rejecting two of the five GOP picks to sit on the newly formed Jan. 6 select committee,” Fox News reported. “Pelosi said Wednesday she won’t appoint Reps. Jim Jordan from Ohio or Jim Banks from Indiana – two strong allies of former President Donald Trump – to the committee formed to investigate the cause of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and make recommendations on preventing future violence.”

“Unless Speaker Pelosi reverses course and seats all five Republican nominees, Republicans will not be party to their sham process and will instead pursue our own investigation of the facts,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said in a statement.

Nancy Pelosi’s partisan anti-Trump committee is a “sham” regardless
