Mars Scam: Guitar Theft

Guide by: scuzzy-elo 2003

Introduction

Basically, Mars has a system of checking items to see if they are stolen. This system can be easily taken advantage of.

Materials

Guitar case that will fit the guitar you want

Serial number from a package of one of them

Avery labels (1” x 2.5”)

Printer

The location number of the Mars you wish to take from

The name of a guitar teacher

Social Engineering

Call in and act interested in lessons for your son. Say you would like the name of one of the teachers that works there. To get the store number, say that you are wishing to send a positive comment to their main office and you were wondering what store number they are.

Serial Number

To get the serial number, just go into a Mars and look for the guitar you want inside a box and write down the serial number.

Label

Make a template in MS Word for a 1” x 2.5” Avery label with the following information:

Student____________________________ Model___________Ser. No.___________ Sec. Signature______________________ Other items:

Mars # XX

In place of the X’s place the store number that you got when you called about a comment. Print this out and fill everything else out with an ink pen. The other items section can be left blank unless you want to get a distortion pedal too. In that case, write in the type of distortion pedal you want.

Note

Serial numbers are not needed for the “Other Items” blank.

Procedure

Get the guitar case and put one of the labels you printed off on the back of the inside so that it will be under the head of the guitar. Walk in with your empty case as if you were going to get lessons or something and head to the guitars section. Set your case flat on the ground next to the stools beside the amps and open it up. Now go get your targeted guitar and pretend to strum it a bit. Walk it over to your case and sit on the stool. Strum the guitar some more then get down and put it in the case. Walk out the door with it. If asked by the person at the gate, open your case and show them your label.

Note

Before doing the lift, take a trip to the store and look for cameras and blindspots.

For the label, shorten the signature. If the name was John Smith put J. Smith.
