DXM Extract

Another poster mentiones an extraction for DXM from OTC cough medicine. This method may work, but is definitly inferior! After adding the lye solution until no more DM precipitatates out of the syrup, a NON polar solvent like Naptha should be added to the syrup . About a 1\8 to 1\4 of an inch layer: the solvent will float on top of the syrup.
Shake vigorously for 5 min or so. Let settle the solution will seperate into 2 layers. Pour the two laters into a large ziplock freezer bag. Carefully cut a small hole at one corner of the bag: use the bag as a saperatory funnel. Drain off the red syrup garbage and when the solvent starts to come out, pour it into a glass baking dish.
Evaporate the solvent and scrape up the DXM freebase crystals.
Now ingesting DMX freebase can be difficult in this form it is not readily absorbed into our water based bodies. I have found that eating food that promotes lots of stomach acid helps.
I am about to try converting the dxm into DXMhcl, salting via hydrochloric acid. This will give a water solulable form of DM.
