DXM Polistirex Separation v. 2

Okay, so I'm sure some of you have seen the article I wrote, 'DXM Polistirex Separation'. It was posted in the forums, as well as submitted to totse [here: http://www.totse.com/en/drugs/otc/dxmpolistirexs168881.html ]. I am re-writing it because I felt a few things were unclear. Its not difficult to do this, nor could you fuck it up in any way that could cause you harm, however I still feel it should be as clear as possible. So, here it is.....

Goal…

Your goal in this is to separate the DXM Polistirex from a syrup that contains DXM Polistirex [Delsym]. I do not call this an extraction, as all it involves is the syrup, water, and a few tools.

You need…

Syrup that contains DXM Polistirex [Delsym brand] <br> 2L pop bottle<br> Razor/Exacto-knife/Piece of tubing<br> Spoon/Syringe<br> Water

A few notes…

Its best not to do this with a shitload of DXM. Simply ‘extract’ the amount of DXM you plan on using. The most I have ever extracted using this method is ~1.8 grams, and the least is ~500mg. With the ~500mg ‘extraction’ I had a bit of trouble because there was such a small amount of DXM in the bottle, however it was still no problem.

Also, I am not here to teach you about risks and dangers. If you’re old enough to walk to the store by yourself, and buy cough syrup, then you’re old enough to go to www.erowid.org and research DXM yourself. Keep in mind DXM Hbr and DXM Polistirex are NOT the same thing. DXM Polistirex is DXM Hbr coated in an edible plastic for a time-release effect. It takes a bit longer for DXM Polistirex to get into your system, compared to DXM Hbr [about 2.5-3 hours, compared to DXM Hbr’s .5-1 hour onset]. It is also suspended in your system for a longer period of time [I’ve experienced afterglow past 24 hours when using DXM Polistirex. The high usually lasts about 10+ hours {with a 1 gram+ dose}].

That’s all the info I’m gonna give you on DXM Polistirex. Like I said, research the shit yourself.

The process…

Step 1.

To begin, make sure your 2L pop bottle is nice and clean. It doesn’t have to be scrubbed down, but its only logical that it not have saliva filled coke floating in the bottom. Once its been rinsed out, pour your syrup into the bottle, and add room temperature water. You want the bottle to be filled about 2 inches from the top. Shake it a bit to get the syrup and water all mixed together.

Step 2.

Do nothing. That’s right, all step 2 involves is you letting the bottle sit. So find a place where you can let the bottle sit upright for a couple of hours [2 hours+], untouched. I usually let the bottle sit for like 3 to 4 hours, just in case, but 2 or so should be sufficient. What you’re doing here, is giving the DXM Polistirex time to settle at the bottom of the bottle. Anyone who has drank a syrup like Delsym before, knows it has a gritty texture. I can’t say for sure, but I imagine the reason for this is because of the plastic coating. It stops the DXM from dissolving in the syrup/water.

Step 3.

Okay, once the bottle has been sitting for a few hours, you should notice that powder has settled at the bottom of the bottle. That’s your pay dirt. You’ve basically done everything there is to do, now all you have to do is get rid of all that excess water. Here is where your razor/exacto-knife/piece of tubing comes in. I used to use a piece of tubing, but find the razor/exacto-knife method to be much easier.

Tubing method: This is very simply. Siphon out the water. If you don’t know how to siphon something, all you do is stick one end of the tubing into the liquid, and make sure the other end is at a lower point [over a sink or something obviously!] then suck. The water will start flowing out, and all you have to do is hold the tube.

Razor method: Use a razor to make a small cut near the water line. Slowly cut down and let the water leak out [once again, into a sink or something of course] through the slit. I find it best to make a ~2 inch sized cut, and let it drain out until the water level is at the bottom of the cut, then extend the cut ~2 more inches, and so on.

You want to get rid of as much water as you can without mixing up all the DXM, so stop siphoning/cutting once you have about 2 inches of water above the DXM. Once that’s done, cut the bottom of the bottle off. Cut a few centimetres above the water line. Now you have all your DXM and water in a little cup, so its much easier to work with.

Step 4.

Here is where you bring in your spoon/syringe. A syringe is best, however a spoon will do fine, it will only take a bit longer.

If you have a spoon, start scooping out the water. Just scoop and scoop, until you have just a tiny pool of water above the DXM. Make sure not to touch the DXM, because you don’t want it getting all mixed in with the water.

If you have a syringe, it’s the same thing, only faster. Suck out as much water as you can, without disturbing the DXM. If you have a NEEDLE for your syringe, that’s even better. Once you’ve sucked up most of the water, attach the needle and push it all the way down to the bottom of the bottle, and let it sit so the opening of the needle is pushed against the bottom [or even the side] of the bottle. Then slowly suck up the water. Watch to make sure no DXM gets sucked into the needle [needles come in different gauges so I can’t tell you if it will or wont get sucked up. If a few grains get sucked in though, just ignore it]. Just suck out as much water as you can, without sucking up the DXM.

You’re done! You can continue with the extended steps if you like, or jump right to the info on dosing.

EXTENDED STEPS! [note: these steps ARE NOT REQUIRED to complete the separation process]

Step 5.

Using a spoon, scoop the DXM out of the bottom of the bottle, and lay it on a piece of aluminium foil [it should be a thin mush, with some water]. You’ll want to set the foil next to a sink or something, and create a little crease in it to let the water flow out into the sink. Use a blow dryer, and dry the powder for a few minutes. You don’t need to make it completely dry, but just dry enough that you can pick up chunks of it.

Step 6.

Take 6 coffee filters, and flatten them out. Separate them into two piles of 3. Lay the semi-dry DXM onto one of the coffee filter piles, and set the remaining pile of filters on top. Gently push on the filters to squish out any remaining water. Gradually push harder. Its best to use a rolling pin, or something similar [a bottle] for this. When you think you’ve gotten it as dry as its gonna go, blow dry it for a few more minutes just for good measure [make sure to not let the powder blow around!].

Step 7.

IF YOU PLAN ON DOSING AT THIS POINT, take the powder and simply pack it into emptied out gel caps. The powder WILL NOT be 100% dry, so the gel caps will start dissolving once the DXM is in there. Anytime I’ve done this, I’ve simply packed some DXM into one end of the cap, and swallowed it right away, without putting the other end on. The point of this is not to get a bunch of neat looking pills, but rather to be able to take the DXM without having to drink any nasty shit. If you try and store the pills, they WILL dissolve. I once tried to pack all of the pills before taking any of them, and when I was done the last one, the first one was all mushy and sticky. So, DO NOT TRY AND STORE THESE PILLS!

IF YOU DON’T PLAN ON DOSING AT THIS POINT, just let the DXM sit until you’re ready. I suggest you set it by a window, in the sun if it a warm day, just so it can dry out some more.

Dosing…

If you went ahead with the extended steps, you obviously don’t need to read this.

The best way I’ve found to dose this shit, is to drink it. I’ll usually take about a mouthful of water/juice/pop/whatever and mix the DXM into there. Then, in one quick gulp [maybe two] the shit is gone. Keep in mind it will still taste bad. It will leave a bit of a nasty aftertaste in your mouth, so its best to have something to chase it with. Trust me though, its much easier to drink a mouthful of juice, with some DXM in it, then it is to drink a one or two bottle of syrup. Anyone who has drank a bottle or more of cough syrup knows it is the most vial thing. Hell, even Delsym’s orange flavour begins to induce your gag reflex after you’ve done it a couple of times. The reason I came up with this separation process was actually because I could no longer drink Delsym without puking it all back up right away.
