Darkness

All stories on this web site are purely FICTIONAL. The people depicted within these stories only exist in someone's IMAGINATION. Any resemblence between anyone depicted in these stories and any real person, living or dead, is an incredible COINCIDENCE too bizarre to be believed. If you think that you or someone you know is depicted in one of these stories it's only because you're a twisted perverted little fucker who sees conspiracies and plots where none exist. You probably suspect that your own MOTHER had sex with ALIENS and COWS and stuff. Well, she didn't. It's all in your head. Now take your tranquilizers and RELAX.

Archive-name: darkness

As he wound his way through the maze that was the city on a snowy winter
evening, he noticed everyone and everything. Every gesture, every laugh,
and every breath he saw clearly of others. Through vampyre eyes he scanned
the streets, hoping to see her.

He had been out looking almost before the last rays of sunlight had
faded. Now, his search seemed pointless; perhaps she would not venture out
tonight. The freezing temperature did not penetrate his vampyre skin, but
he felt the cold anyways, a memory of a life which no longer existed.

He stopped. A few blocks ahead, a shadow flew by, too quick to be seen by
human eyes. He accelerated, his vampyre body no longer held by human
frailty. In a split second he had covered the distance. Rounding the corner,
he was barely in time to see the shadow turn onto another street. He couldn't
lose her tonight, not again.

Three years ago, he had died. Three years ago he had been reborn. A
reincarnation that had removed all human weakness from his body but had left
his human soul very much intact. He could barely keep pace with her, he had
no strength; she had just killed. He could smell the blood racing through her.
He could feel his own hunger raging in him.

The first time he saw her was during a kill. He had stood silently in the
darkness, her senses dimmed by the blood flowing through her veins and the
mad pounding of her victim's heart. As her victim fell with a dying breath,
she looked up and saw him. His heart nearly stopped. She was beautiful
beyond words. Before he could speak, she had fled, leaving him stunned and
trembling.

He had searched for her many nights after, without even a glimpse. He
wondered why she would reveal herself to him now. They had entered a wooded
area, moving so quickly that he could barely hear her footfalls.
Suddenly, she stopped. He stopped a few dozen paces before her. Her skin was
lucid, her pale eyes still flushed from the kill. A porcelain goddess who
claims her own sacrifices.

"Why do you follow me?", she asked. "I don't know.", he replied. He
looked down, unable to meet her gaze. So long unfeeling, he was unprepared
for the pain in his heart at just the sight of her, and the sound of her
voice. The snow fell silently, tracing the madness of the wind.

"A vampyre is a solitary creature", she hissed, "You must walk the
devil's road alone." The words echoed clearly in his mind. Memories of the
pain, as his body slowly died while his creator stood before him. "I don't
think you really believe that", he murmured.

She didn't answer him. She had turned away, her face hidden in the
darkness. "I believe in nothing under heaven and earth...", she whispered.
And like the wind, she disappeared into the night.

He did not try to follow. He spoke slowly, knowing that she would hear
him,
"Listen as the wind blows from across the great divide.
Voices trapped in yearning memories trapped in time
the night is my companion & solitude my guide.
Would I spend forever here & not be satisfied."
(From "Possession" by Sarah McLachlan)

("the devil's road" from The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice)

End.
