Prologue

Station Log, Deep Space Nine, Stardate 54286.53
The station is expecting the arrival of a Star Fleet deep exploration
vessel, USS Caroline, returning from the Gamma Quadrant. Lieutenant Dax
has prepared the computers to download the information the Caroline has
gathered, so that we can share it with our Bajorian hosts.

Lieutenant Jadzia Dax scanned over the panel on her science station again,
making sure that the computer is receive the huge amount of information
the Caroline is expected to bring back. If she was on a Star Fleet base,
she would have been ready long ago, but these Cardassian computers seems
to have been engineered to create as much work for the user as possible.
A red light flashed on her display, and she turned to the man standing in
the middle of the room, "Benjamin, there is a ship coming through the
wormhole now. Long range sensors indicate that it is the Caroline."
The tall black man, Commander Benjamin Sisko, turned, and said, "Good,
the sooner we get the information of her, the sooner she can head back
to Federation territory. Otherwise, I'm sure our Cardassian neighbors
would like to pay her a visit."
Everyone in Ops then turned to the viewscreen, as an area of empty space
suddenly erupt into colors, and a tunnel of gas seems to form. After a
few seconds, a ship comes out of the wormhole, and then come to a
complete halt.
"What's wrong?" Sisko inquired, to no one in particular. The Bajorian
woman standing next to him, Major Kira Neyrs turned to her panel, and
after a while, responded, "Something is wrong. I am not registering any
life signs on board, and close to negligible power output."
Sisko turned to Major Kira, "Tow the ship in using a tractor beam." Kira
nodded, and a few seconds later, a blue beam of light from the station
connected to the ship and started moving it towards DS9.
"Chief, set up a Level 1 security field, and Quarantine field around the
ship," Sisko said to the stocky man, Chief Miles O'Brien, "I don't want
whatever that killed the crew of the ship to get on board this station.
Then, set up a computer pathway, so that Dax can begin downloading the
ship's logs and data banks."
Minutes later, Dax reported that almost all the information have been
downloaded. "Good," Sisko exclaimed. "Maybe we can find out what
happened to the crew from the logs."
