THE X-FILES

THE X-FILES is a one-hour drama about an unconventional FBI
agent, Fox Mulder (David Duchovny), who develops a consuming
passion for a group of unsolved cases, known within the FBI as
the "X-Files," that he believes are the result of paranormal
phenomena and supernatural activity. To keep tabs on his work -
and to debunk his theories - the FBI teams him up with Agent Dana
Scully (Gillian Anderson), a young, skeptical agent who has a
degree in medicine and a strong bias toward the scientific.

As the pair works to solve these unexplained cases, Mulder's
strong belief in the forces of the unknown continues to challenge
Scully's rational mind. Their relationship begins to grow more
complex with each proceeding case and slowly emerges as a heady
mix of professional competitiveness, witty repartee and a
physical attraction heightened by the intensity and close
proximity in which they work.

Among the cases the pair has investigated recently are a
violent, unseen force surrounding a young girl, which kills those
who threaten her; a series of bizarre deaths thought to be the
work of a serial killer who hibernates and emerges every 30 years
to eat five human livers; and the unusual demise of a team of
researchers drilling for prehistoric core samples at an Arctic
research facility.

Chris Carter is the executive producer of THE X-FILES which is
produced by Twentieth Television in association with Fox
Broadcasting Company.

BIOGRAPHY

CHRIS CARTER
(executive Producer/Writer of THE X-FILES)

Chris Carter began his career as a screenwriter in 1985 after
Jeffrey Katzenberg, chairman of The Wait Disney Studios, read a
screenplay of his and signed him to a development contract with
Wait Disney Pictures. Previously, Carter had been working as a
freelance journalist, writing and traveling extensively abroad.

At Disney, Carter wrote and produced several television movies
in addition to the television pilot "Cameo By Night" for NBC and
"The Nanny," a sitcom for The Disney Channel. He took a short
leave of absence from Disney to co-produce the second season of
the comedy series "Rags to Riches," starring Joe Bologna, and
returned in 1989 to create and executive produce "Brand New
Life," a recurring comedy series starring Barbara Eden, which ran
as part of a rotating schedule on Disney's Sunday night lineup.

In 1992, Carter began creating and developing television
projects, including THE X-FILES, for Twentieth Television.

DAVID DUCHOVNY
(Agent Fox Mulder on THE X-FILES)

David Duchovny seemed an unlikely candidate to become an actor.
A native New Yorker, Duchovny attended Yale University, where he
received a graduate degree in English literature to prepare for a
career as a teacher. While at Yale, he began commuting to New
York to study acting and was soon appearing in off-Broadway
plays. In 1987, in the midst of his doctoral studies, he left
Yale to pursue acting full time.

Numerous roles soon followed. Duchovny is probably best known
for his memorable portrayal of Dennis/Denise, the transvestite
detective in the television series "Twin Peaks," and for his
performance opposite Mimi Rogers in the acclaimed feature film
"The Rapture."

Duchovny's other feature film credits include leading roles in
"Chaplin," "Beethoven," "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitters Dead,"
"Kalifornia" and the critically acclaimed "Julia Has Two Lovers."
Duchovny is also the host of cable's "The Red Shoe Diaries."

Duchovny, who is single, was born August 7 and divides his time
between Vancouver, B.C. and Malibu, California.

GILLIAN ANDERSON
(Agent Dana Scully on THE X-FILES)

Gillian Anderson's first big break came when she was cast in a
starring role in FOX's THE X-FILES in September of 1993. Anderson
also gained recognition as an actress for her off-Broadway
performance in Alan Ayckborne's "Absent Friends" at the Manhattan
Theater Club, for which she won a Theatre World Award. She also
appeared in Christopher Hampton's "The Philanthropist" at the
Long Wharf Theater.

Her love of theatre began in high school, when she participated
in community theater productions. Later, Anderson studied with
the National Theatre of Great Britain at Cornell University in
Ithaca, N.Y., and then at the Goodman Theater School at Chicago's
DePaul University, where she obtained her BFA degree.

Anderson's film and television credits include "The Turning,"
produced by The Tribeca Film Center, and an episode of FOX's
series "Class of '96."

Anderson, who was born on August 9, is married and resides in
both Vancouver and Los Angeles: She and her husband are expecting
their first child in September.
