America's Hit List

by Shane Altmann

After years of dealing WMD with Saddam Hussein in the 1980’s and bizarre encouragement of an Iran invasion anyone with valuable information must have been surprised when George Bush, Sr. started the first Gulf War, though the reasoning behind that conflict is now clear; the Iraqi military came too close to America’s oil rich friends in the dictatorship of Kuwait.

Over a decade later, George Bush’s son George Bush, Jr. is the president of the United States. In the 2000 election George Bush used a fraudulent tactic now dubbed as the ‘Florida-tion’ to win over the Democrats. George Bush damaged the education system, welfare, health, environment and our relationship with various other countries like China by spying on them as if it were the Cold War – but all this bad publicity changed when fifteen Saudi Arabians and six other al Queda terrorists hijacked three planes and flew them into the World Trade Centers and Pentagon killing almost 3,000 civilians.

Memos were reportedly being sent to the Bush administration within days to use this as an excuse to invade Afghanistan and Iraq. As conservative governments infamously do; they capitalized on peoples fear to take control of both Afghanistan and Iraq. With the help of the media, Britain and a bribed Australia, they did this without hesitation. Despite their being daily resistance, I think it’s safe to say they have achieved what they set out to achieve (we both know that they knew there were no dangerous WMD left in Iraq), with the rumored to be timed capture of Saddam Hussein and Patriot Acts that allow them to seek any information they so wish, home and abroad.

Shocking statements that the FBI let a Saudi Arabian plane fly around the country and transport unknown individuals back to Saudi Arabia the very day after the attacks have spurted morbid conspiracy theories. Conspiracy theories with credibility… the Bush administration definitely has something to answer for now.

But conservatism is still running strong in America, and the Right will likely win next years election. What will happen then? Will they invade Syria, Libya or Iran? What will the United Nations have to say? How many more innocent people will die? 2004 is certainly an uncertain year, one that could create confusion, frustration and uproar.
