New Tactics in Iran

by Peter Khan Zendran

Recently we have seen actions going on in Iran and Iranian society that some anticipated but many were unable to prepare for when they occurred. These actions, despite the surprise which they have taken people, have been beneficial for Iran.

First among these are the surprise results of Iran's Presidential elections. Instead of the western collaborator Rafsanjani winning, as everyone had anticipated, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wins, upsetting the mullahs and the west who had tried to prepare everyone for a Rafsanjani win. The first reaction of the propaganda machinery of the west was to falsely call Ahmadinejad the choice of the mullahs, despite obvious evidence to the contrary. Then, as if to open the way for further slander stories started circulating in Austria that Ahnadinejad was involved in the murder of Kurdish leaders there in 1982. That Austria, a long time Iranian friend, would come out with information like that after the election instead of acting on it long before the election shows that the accusations are not important but the aim of them is to slander the reputation of Iran's new President. Then again, if Die Munze Osterreich can let condi rice write reviews for it's products it certainly can leave itself open to American lies.

Another important action is the Shanghai Cooperation Organization admitting Iran as an observer nation in the first week of July 2005, along with India and Pakistan. This action comes on the heels of the American backed revolutionary activity in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, which prompted Russia and Uzbekistan to hold joint military exercises. Seeing how Tajikistan as well as Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan are chafing in dealing with the American military presence, especially since America is reluctant to pay it's bills for leasing bases in those countries which could lead to america's ouster over there. Iran's being put on the SCO also shows a growing defensive need among Asian nations. With the American government/military/industrial complex taking heavy casualties in soldiers and material in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as pursuing the phony war on terror, the people of Iran and Asia are seeing the actions of america's leaders for the threat to them they are. With this threat these nations see defensive cooperation as the means for survival, especially since the armed forces of Russia, China, and India alone can easily fend off an American attack and Pakistan and Iran have built up their armed forces to that degree. Iranians may joke about Pakistan and the bomb but they are realizing that the bomb can protect them from invasion. Not to mention the SCO appointment recognizes that Iran has worked for peace and stability in Asia, as it's mediation in Kashmir and support for Syria and Palestine has shown.

Noticeable as well in Iran's military is how most of the armed forces are realizing this threat and getting ready to act on it. They have seen how American forces have ruined and exploited instead of liberated Iraq and Afghanistan. They have seen how American support for Israel since 1967 has victimized the Arab peoples of Palestine and in the neighboring nations. They also noticed how during the main combat phase of the 2003 Iraq invasion the high command collaborated with the Americans instead of putting up a determined initial resistance. The behavior of their leaders like Defense Minister Shamkhani who recently said "A united, independent, and democratic Iraq which lives in coexistence with its neighbors is the ideal for all people in the region." gives cause for concern. With vague statements like that, which does not make it clear if he supports the occupation of Iraq or the resistance of the Iraqi people makes the rank and file of Iran's armed forces and Iran's people worry if the people in charge really have their best interests at heart.

Looking at what is going on recently the people of Iran have every cause to worry. As mentioned before, the American government/military/industrial complex which since the Korean conflict has acted as a creature that works for it's own ends off the suffering of others. This is the creature that in helping orchestrate the overthrow of the Iranian government in 1979 paved the way for Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden. This is the creature that created 9/11 and invented reasons to occupy Iraq in 2003. This is the creature that created a power outing in 2002 and used hurricane damage in 2004 to conduct a fema drill for occupying American cities. Also consider that this is a creature that had a hand in the 7/7 london bombings and is considering spinning lies to try to implicate Iran, which even the western propaganda has stumbled over in it's quest to cover up the truth, as usa today demonstrated when it slipped and admitted that netanyahu and giuliani had foreknoweledge of the attacks. Even america's navy is running anti-submarine drills with Sweden in possible preparation in going up Iran's submarine force. Right now the older generation of Americans who remember how America betrayed Iran in 1978-9 is fading away and a younger generation is being conditioned to believe the lies of america's government. Consider how many action groups in America, be it international a.n.s.w.e.r., iso, iww, the green party, pacifists, etc. which say they oppose the actions of america's government ultimately take no constructive action and collaborate with the very people they oppose. Fortunately, people are realizing this and real resistance is becoming possible.

What kind of changes will we see in the future? That is anyone's guess. If these changes are as positive as the one's occurring now then the future looks bright. It is up to us to make sure that these changes are for the best.
