Joe Biden’s Aghanistan crisis is getting worse by the day.
Countless Americans are still stranded in the Taliban-controlled region and there was a terror attack last week that resulted in 13 U.S. Servicemembers being killed.
Things have gotten bad that members of Biden’s own staff are turning on him.
An anonymous White House official told Politico that they were “appalled” that Americans were left in Afghanistan.
From Politico:
Not everyone in the administration shared the commander in chief’s confidence. “I am absolutely appalled and literally horrified we left Americans there,” one administration official told POLITICO. “It was a hostage rescue of thousands of Americans in the guise of a NEO [noncombatant evacuation operations], and we have failed that no-fail mission.” Another White House official said that the mission isn’t accomplished if they left Americans behind.
The drawdown of the war in Afghanistan represents the most significant failure Biden has confronted in his presidency — one where he repeatedly failed to meet his lofty promises and flawed predictions. Biden has long relished proving his doubters wrong and wrapping his pursuits in a sense of optimism. It has worked for him before, most recently with his zealous quest to win Republican support for a bipartisan infrastructure deal.
Last week, a new report revealed that White House staff members don’t have the freedom or courage to tell Biden and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan “they’re wrong” about the disaster in Afghanistan.
“People are simply too afraid to tell Biden (and) Jake Sullivan (his National Security Adviser), they’re wrong. It’s one thing to crack down on leaks (as Mr. Biden has done), it’s another thing to allow a mistake like this,” a former defense official, “who is in regular contact with senior White House aides,” told the Telegraph.
Did you see this? China wants your family, too
“This White House is very disciplined, especially when it comes to leaks and such. But the downside of discipline is if you’re running things like an autocracy, and you broker no dissent internally, that’s not what the purpose of a White House staff is,” the report added.
Another individual “close to the administration” told the Telegraph he asked Biden, “without success,” to reconsider and “to keep open Bagram Air Base, which has more runways than Hamid Karzai International Airport and has long been the beating heart of American operations in Afghanistan.”
A handful of top Republicans are calling for Biden to resign or at least be impeached over this disastrous handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal.
Alabama Republican Rep. Mo Brooks added his voice to other Republicans who called for Biden’s resignation over his lackluster handling of the situation in Afghanistan.
“Time and time again, President Biden has shown the strength of a marshmallow and the intellectual capacity and judgment of a gnat,” Brooks wrote in a press release. “America, and the free world, simply cannot afford the risks of such a vacuous man in the office of President of the United States.”
“As the president has said repeatedly, the buck stops with him – and I agree. The buck must stop here. President Biden has demonstrated that he is unfit to serve as commander-in-chief, and, therefore, must resign,” Republican Rep. Jackie Walorski said.
Last week, New York Rep. Claudia Tenney and Florida Rep. Byron Donalds demanded Biden resign from office.
South Carolina GOP Rep. Jeff Duncan joined Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene, who filed the articles of impeachment last week.
