Getting unemployment benefits by lying to the state.

Let's discuss ways this can be done.
I thought about using an off the books job or self employment as a way to get on unemployment.
Will this work or would it get shot down. I'm sure someone here would know how the process works.
Also I live in n.y. if it matters.

Cant help you with what to do in the US, its all too easy in the UK though unfortunately. Personally Im a believer in what you work is what you get, and if you refuse to work you get nothing from the state. There are too many spongers here, and it is a disgrace.

If you have not had an income that was reported and paid into unemployment no amount of lying is going to get you benefits. However when you get caught cooking books for some fictitious self employment scheme to fraud the system you will not only get nailed for unemployment fraud but they will come after you for taxes on the income you claim to have earned while self employed and did not report on your filing.
