I have a modem.
Which is connected to a router [linksys RVS4000]. That router is connected to a 24 port switch.
A wireless router is also connected to the router [WNDR3700].
I get d/ced at random intervals and it's fucking annoying. It'd take 3 seconds to load a page then it comes back to normal.
Here's a quick schematic:
This is what happens when I ping a site:

I've already called up my ISP and told them about the problem. They said the problem wasn't at their end.
Any help?

ping the router and the modem and then the wireless router and compare the results.
It should be <1ms or 1ms.
Btw, the ping timeout occurs on both, hardwired and wireless network.

The problem wasn't my network. It was the ISP. After endless waiting hours on customer support some rep. told me that one of their EBR thingies had an outage. He said the technicians were on it. I mentioned it's been a whole month already and he was all, "I'm sorry blah blah."
For any New Yorker out there, "RCN is the WORSE internet service provider EVER." These guys fucking stall their jobs and HANG UP ON YOU when you're on customer support. When I tried filing a complain they whip the same old bullshit, "bob doesn't work here." They request your account number about 10 fucking times for a call. Not to mention some of their reps. have this horrid monotonous voice. They sound like dying, climaxing robots.
Currently I'm waiting on Time Warner's site survey. They said they'll be here in a day or so because of the blizzard.
The price is FAR cheaper than RCN's. $300 for 50 down. and 5 up. and one national phoneline [us, pr and canada]. Not to mention the modem installation is a one time fee only. RCN kept charging me for it for 2 fucking years.
RCN is truly a piece of shit. I thought it was only their business service, but it's their home service too. When I went to their main office, there was this HUGE line of people returning their modems. People were raging at the poor nigger attendant. I asked a couple of them what was their problem and they told me that it kept DCing at 11 am - 3 pm. The SAME FUCKING hours as mine.
I'll be posting back results after the Time Warner techie comes and sets me up. The chick rep. that I talked too was really polite too. I can't believe I'm saying this but...she sounded HUMAN. She said that she'll be my assistant and if I experienced any trouble, to call her cell. She'd redirect me to a rep. asap.
+1 for Time Warner's customer support.
