How to fix exe files or shortcuts (.lnk) which open with an application [Published]
My friend just had a problem with his computer where he accidentally set the default for opening an exe or lnk file to open it with Burnout Paradise :facepalm:
Anyway, with a little Googling I managed to find a fix buried deep within some random forum so I thought I'd share it here, putting it in plain and simple instructions as it seems like a simple mistake to make.

This works for Windows Vista and Windows 7, although I'm not sure about Windows XP. For XP, you could try the method which I will list at the bottom.
For Windows XP users with the EXE problem

- Download EXEFIX from here OR here
- Download LNKFIX from here OR here
- Extract them both, and run the reg files as an administrator
- Reboot to complete the fix
For Windows XP users with the EXE problem
- Create a new Notepad file with the name EXE.reg
- Paste the following into it...
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe]

- Run this file as an Administrator, then reboot.
