And read Orson Scott Card even if you don't like SF/F because his work truly stands alone. I'm recommending them mostly because I liked them, and I liked the book and author you listed in the OP, so, you know, connection there somewhere.

Well, if you have read 1984 and liked it, a common recommendation would be, "Brave New World" by Huxley.
More plausible in my opinion.
