Taking Your Clothes Off At The Beach

Here's something - why is it socially acceptable to take your shoes, socks and t-shirt off at the beach yet doing it elsewhere is looked down upon by the general public? Why the beach? I wonder who invented that idea.

Seriously, is there a reason behind why this all started?

    Its actually a recent development - back in the 20's people were all wearing suits to the beach and shit.

    But then again victorian morality is relatively recent in the scheme of things.

    In Australia during summer shirts off in public generally is fairly common, and thongs/barefoot are common year round.

    It is odd. I reckon it's got a lot to do with the whole ego thing. Fat chicks and neckbeard guys don't go topless, yet the people who strive to be what they aren't or are socially comfy do.

    i've successfully walked around 3 wal-marts shirtless. i made it halfway through the mall here, until a security guard kicked me out. just act like its normal, or you came from another country where it is acceptable.
