We have tons of sections and little content but that doesn't really affect us. The problem is most of the sections were added back in 2006 and onwards. They weren't that successful and I don't think they used prefixes on Totse.
But we can use sub-forums and prefixes easily.
So, I prefer the 2005 and back look. Things were grouped into smaller but active sections. Right now, I had hard time compiling the sections in the mod list thread. We have some useless sections that don't fare well when it comes to traffic and they were part of another larger section in the old days.
Since we're going back to roots, I thought it would be best to merge the sections now and assign two mods per section. Use prefixes and sub-forms if required.
Later on we can add more sections if required, but we need to modernize Totse a bit and aim at newer users.
So, can anyone post 2005 forum screenshots for reference.
And everyone, please concentrate and think before posting. You have the power. You decide.
Follow this simple format:
Forum Name:
Opinion
Pros:
Cons:
Should be merged with:
Should be moved in this section:
Example:
Forum Name: It came from Redmond
Opinion Was originally with T&T. It's fairly restricted nowadays and doesn't get much traffic.
Pros:
Is Windows only.
Cons:
Is Windows only.
Should be merged with: Technophiliacs & Technophiles
^Just an example.

If a forum has no moderator and someone starts being a troll knowing there is nobody to stop them I'd just do the old Totse method and PM a staff member that is currently on and have them look into it and take care of it. That's why the communication chain exsits and worked on the Old Totse.
I like the forum layout and No is a wise choice. I wanted to check what the majority thinks before working on things. It would be foolish to assign mods and then wait for them to contribute like hell only to have their sections merged in the end.
Ofcourse I know the community wont let it happen but you have to check before doing things.
Also, we do need to move Trading Pit up and add a dedicated Porn Section. I will make a seperate thread after we see what happens here.
Like always I am the neutral party here.
Thankfully they're. But it wont be for long when we get traffic and beleive me. We will get traffic. But I like the feedback. Keep it coming people.
Don't worry about it .
That's a whole lotta low traffic.
Also, dedicated porn thread not it's own board. Unless its like 300+ pages. That was the spirit of totse, someone started a porn thread and it grew. Don't force a section if no one is making threads about it. I think this runs for everything.
It's like butter, if you spread it out so thin then you can't even taste it. But when you make the bread smaller, the tasty butter is more tasty. Unless of course you have a shit load of butter, but we scraping the box here...
Edit: Also, why the hell is my user name underlined?
If we did that I would bitch like a little girl at you Dfg. Then leave. Then come back and bitch again!
lol, it's crazy, mine is too!
Die in ditch, turn left now.
Im not sure what you think of this but what about merging headshrinkers and reinvent yourself since they both pertain to improving yourself and issues with mind and body could easily be contained in one forum.
Other than those sections i say leave it the same.
I can't read that much, even if I spend 19 hours a day on this lame site. :x
Well maybe I can, but I don't want to.
I also get the feeling most users are voting 'No', because they don't know what would be changed.
From what I can remember:
Just to get an idea. I think some of the new forums are actually pretty useful and will get traffic, so if it were personally up to me, I'd merge:
Reasons being:
Completely agree with this. We had epic porn threads
EDIT: Remember, if we get more traffic we can always remake the forums we merge.
Move ego up to the top under about.
On totse we used to have a shitload of members. When they made those forums they were 'low traffic' and still had as much traffic as like... SG does now. From where I'm sitting it looks smart to merge them for now and see how things stand in a year or two.
EDIT: >my face when people already said all this pretty much word for word
Everything is reversible.
It's just stupid having half dead forums laying around.
- It increases time to scroll down the page
- Takes traffic away from what could be successful forums
- Takes too long to check too many forums
- Increases mod:user ratio
- Less people check small forums = less replies to threads = less content
- Dead forums gives impression of dead site
- Less stuff to talk about in SG
Set the style: merge into Reinvent Yourself/Art & Design
Money money money: merge into Reinvent Yourself/Bad Ideas
Headshrinkers: merge into SG/S&A/Reinvent Yourself/Humanities
Anime: merge into Moving Pictures
All nature forums: merge into Green Planet (categorise under Science)
Science of the Damned: merge into Mad Scientists, or vice versa
Cunning Linguists: merge into Humanities/SG/Trav Travails
NOTY: merge into SG/IFIOTW
OSNWFS: merge into SG/Reinvent Yourself
I am the law: merge into SG/S&A/Humanities
Together we serve: merge into W&C
Nix/Mac/MS: merge into T&T
All good points I say merge for now.
All of this. New users won't stay if they think the forum is dead.
But Putting things into SG aka a general forum is bad. I Am the Law and together we serve should be one subforum of W&C
basically merge all of the nature related forums
merge all of the tech forums
other than that, yeah
Totse back in the day had a fraction of the forums we currently have; it worked perfectly fine.
There is a huge amount of bloat at the moment, which isn't sustainable for a community our size.
It isn't exactly 'one huge pile', the forum mergers I suggested all result in forums with direction and a general topic.
And it's forced and stupid to just mention 'contribute!!!'. With the size of our community, well end up with a bunch of people making bullshit 'what is your favourite X' threads in an attempt to boost the amount of threads. The answers will be posters going through the notions, and no real content will be generated which we haven't seen before.
Rome wasn't built in a day, and it's absolutely stupid to think we can instantly become Totse and support the same number of forums in an instant. We need to return to a sustainable level and build from there.
